Bookpedia: still worth it?

Post by chiefsub68 »

Hello, I used Bookpedia years ago -- probably on Mac OS7 when you attached a cat-shaped bar scanner to the computer.

My question is, is it still worth buying? The app seems long in the tooth now and the spiel on the App Store doesn't mention whether you can use your phone to scan in your collection.

I've looked around for something better but they seem to be iOS/Android only -- nothing capable of being both.

Views welcome!

Welcome to these forums.

All the Pedia's have been updated to the latest macOS and iDevices iOS. Have a read of this Blog post: https://bruji.com/blog/2019/06/20/pedias-6-0/ The short of it is that the Pedia's will only run on 64bit machines now.

Bookpedia is most certainly still worth buying. https://www.bruji.com/bookpedia/
It is still a very uncomplicated and effortless cataloguing program to use that is just packed full of features, developed over the years by Conor following a shed load of suggestions from users.
A complete breakdown of all its abilities can be found here: Welcome to Bookpedia
and the spiel on the App Store doesn't mention whether you can use your phone to scan in your collection.

Short answer is yes: You can use Pocketpedia as a barcode scanner for the Pedia programs too. Just tap the little computer icon at the bottom of the video screen so it turns green and scans will automatically be sent to your Mac for scanning or stored until you connect to the same Wifi network.

You can download the required Pedia from here: https://bruji.com/beta/ Bookpedia 6.2.1 Beta 231. These are FULLY FUNCTIONING Beta's.
There is a Free To Try limit of 20 books (I think)

I hope this answers your questions.
