I have both some movie series (eg: Aliens, Terminator, Tremors, ...) and TV series (eg: Stargate, Buffy, various anime...) and would like to have each in different Smart Collections. At the moment, I am adding them manually to Collections, and this works. However, would it be possible to add two new rules to Smart Collections? They would be "is blank" and "is not_blank". Then I can distinguish between the movie and TV series. Movie series would be "Series [field] not_blank AND Season [field] blank", while TV series would be "Series [field] not_blank AND Season [field] not_blank".

Definitely possible. The "is blank" rule is built into the "is" and "is not" rules by leaving the text field blank. So the final setup would be:
