Facebook integration

Post by scutter7282 »

It would be great to add Facebook integration. On Facebook there are mini-apps already that show off your libraries. It would be great to have the same for our pedias, with links to our full library online. That way we can share with our friends!

Thank you for the feedback. Creating a Facebook application might be a bit beyond our resources, but will take a look at the Facebook API.

Leveraging the Facebook API for integration offers streamlined login, social sharing, and personalized experiences.

While advantageous, concerns about user data privacy, platform changes, and reliance exist. Prioritize transparent data handling, user consent, and robust security measures when utilizing the Facebook API.

Assess its impact on user experience and data privacy to weigh benefits against potential risks before integrating—striving for a balance that aligns with user preferences and your objectives.

The problem I have with this idea is that FB will somehow access your data and leverage it for advertising purposes.

Disclaimer: I and my partner do not like social media - FaceBook, Twitter, Snapchat, Tik Tok, etc and have never had accounts.

Facebook integration could be a great way to share libraries easily with friends and enhance user experience. But I agree, privacy concerns should be carefully addressed. Balancing benefits with strong data protection is really important for any integration like this.

I dropped Facebook in 2021 and so this is something that would not be of use for me but I am glad to see that a poll was setup to get an idea what users think.

Given that he is on hiatus, if and when he returns he will be looking at a refresh of the apps to bring them on par with the current Apple UI standards. That in itself will probably be a huge undertaking. If you add the long list of feature requests that have been submitted and that have not yet been implemented, it adds to an already long timeline.

We have been very fortunate that he has found the time to update the apps to universal binaries for compatibility with Apple Silicon. We are getting closer and closer to when Apple will announce the end intel base apps so a big thanks to Conor for making this happen.

Not saying this could not get done done but given that Conor is currently only dealing with compatibility issues and bugs, the timeline for this could be a long way down the road.
