One of DVDPedia's best features is the ability to play linked VIDEO_TS and .dvdmedia files using Apple's DVD Player. However, as media formats change, we need more flexibility.
Typically I rip my Blu-rays to .mkv files (using MakeMKV) and play them back via VLC. .mp4 files can be played back by Quicktime, etc. Can we have a DVDPedia preference to selects which player to use based on the file's extension?
And speaking of DVDPedia -- as DVDs and CDs fade away as formats of choice, maybe its time to rename the Pedias to MoviePedia & MusicPedia
Different Players depending on format?
Re: Different Players depending on format?
Thank you for the feedback.
DVDpedia should be picking up your preferences for file extensions from the Finder and using the player for that file extension. You can change the player under "Get More Info" in the Finder when a file is selected. VIDEO_TS folder is a bit different and DVDpedia will use QuickTime by default, but you can set VLC as the default.
Indeed the names will have to change at some point, but it's tough to do with so much legacy.
